‘Maid of Riverton’, 1870

Categories:   South Coast Shipwrecks

A 23-metre, 82-ton wooden schooner ‘Maid of Riverton’ was sent to Wreck Bay to salvage the wreck of the ‘Summer Cloud’.

Loaded with timber and gear from the wreck site, she left Jervis Bay only to be caught in a gale. She was then washed ashore near the entrance to Currambene Creek, near Huskisson, after her anchors failed to hold after two days of riding out the storm. She became a wreck on 24th December 1870.
