‘Northern Firth’, 1932

Categories:   South Coast Shipwrecks

The ‘Northern Firth’ was an 85-metre, 1,954-ton steel screw steamer that had been built in the U.K. in 1922.

She was wrecked on 22nd February 1932 whilst on a voyage from Melbourne to Sydney with a crew of 30, when she hit rocks on Brush Island, about 15 miles south of Ulladulla. The crew landed themselves on Brush Island.

A diver’s report indicated she was badly damaged below the waterline and her holds were full of water. Calm seas allowed the crew to save some of the cargo, including several hundred cases of liquor.
